Locum Consultant in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Special Interest in Facial Deformity and Orthognathic Surgery Fixed-Term Locum Consultant Appointment Full Time Considered Overview We are supporting the appointment of a Locum Consultant in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery with a specialist interest in facial deformity and orthognathic surgery to join a well-established and supportive OMFS service within a large NHS provider. This fixed-term locum consultant role offers the opportunity to work within a busy tertiary referral environment, delivering high-quality care across a broad OMFS case mix. The post holder will work closely with a multidisciplinary team including orthodontists, anaesthetists, specialist nurses, and allied health professionals, contributing to outpatient clinics, theatre activity, multidisciplinary team meetings, teaching, and service development. Key Responsibilities Clinical Duties • Deliver consultant-level care in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, with a focus on facial deformity and orthognathic surgery • Undertake outpatient clinics, inpatient care, and elective theatre sessions • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings for facial deformity and complex OMFS cases • Provide management of the full spectrum of OMFS conditions, including trauma • Take independent responsibility for patient care in line with consultant practice • Contribute to audit, quality improvement, and clinical governance activity Service Development and Multidisciplinary Working • Support ongoing development of the facial deformity and orthognathic service • Work collaboratively with orthodontic, restorative, anaesthetic, and nursing colleagues • Promote integrated care pathways across OMFS services • Engage with service improvement initiatives and departmental planning Leadership, Governance, and Professional Responsibilities • Active participation in clinical governance, audit, and risk management • Contribution to departmental meetings and service delivery discussions • Compliance with appraisal, revalidation, and mandatory training requirements • Demonstration of professional behaviours aligned with NHS values and inclusive practice Teaching, Training, and Research • Teaching and supervision of junior doctors, trainees, and dental core trainees • Contribution to undergraduate and postgraduate education • Engagement with research and audit activity where appropriate • Support development of educational initiatives within the department Job Plan • Full-time locum role with an indicative job plan of 10 Programmed Activities • Balance of Direct Clinical Care and Supporting Professional Activities agreed on appointment • Clinical activity to include outpatient clinics, theatre sessions, MDTs, and administrative time • Job plan subject to review and agreement with service leadership Person Specification Essential Requirements • Full GMC and GDC registration • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, or eligibility within 6 months via CCT • High level of clinical competence across OMFS, including facial deformity and trauma • Ability to manage patients independently at consultant level • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team • Commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusive clinical practice Desirable Attributes • Fellowship or advanced training in facial deformity or orthognathic surgery • Experience in service development or quality improvement • Teaching or research experience within OMFS • Interest in strengthening links with primary care services Why Apply • Locum consultant role within a well-resourced OMFS department • Exposure to complex facial deformity and orthognathic surgery • Strong multidisciplinary and administrative support • Opportunity to contribute to service development, teaching, and audit • Supportive consultant team environment Application Process This vacancy is being managed confidentially by Ava Medical.
